OptiComm Is Phasing Out Free-to-Air TV — Here’s What That Means for Perth Homes
Attention Perth families: big changes are coming for how we watch TV.
OptiComm has announced they will end Free-to-Air (FTA) TV service over their fibre network — meaning channels like Seven, Nine, Ten, ABC, and SBS will no longer be carried through that infrastructure.
What does this mean for you?
Your internet will still work, but your TV reception on OptiComm’s old system will fade out.
Important dates you should know
1 October 2025 — Up until this date, FTA over OptiComm is still supported, though reliability may decline.
1 February 2026 — Full shutdown of Free-to-Air TV over OptiComm. After this date, without a proper external antenna, many homes will lose access to local channels entirely.

What You Need to Do to Stay Connected

If you live in an OptiComm or Telstra Velocity estate, here’s your action plan:
Install an external roof-mounted TV antenna We’ll mount it, run the cable, and connect it to your existing TV points.
- Test and tune for signal strength
No one wants to install an antenna only to find poor reception. We test before we leave. - Rescan your TVs for channels
Your TVs will pick up all your FTA channels just like they did before — but now through the antenna, not fibre.
Why This Matters (And Why You Should Act Now)
No subscriptions required — Free-to-Air TV stays free.
Don’t be caught at the last minute — as the shutdown nears, installers will be booked out.
Reliable for years to come — we use high-quality hardware that withstands Perth weather.
Local support you can trust — we’re based in Bibra Lake, servicing both sides of the river.

Choosing the Right Solution for Your Home
Not every family wants to pay for endless subscriptions like Kayo, Netflix or Disney +. Many families in Perth simply want their TV viewing time to continue as it is.
If you live in Caversham, Dayton, Ellenbrook and Brabham it might be time to review your TV viewing habits. Do you currently watch Free-to-air TV?
If you said yes and you don’t have an antenna, it’s time to start planning ahead before Opticomm shuts down your area.

The Bottom Line: Don’t Wait Until You Lose Signal

OptiComm’s Free-to-Air shutdown is already affecting suburbs across Perth — including Baldivis, Caversham, Dayton, Ellenbrook, Piara Waters, and Yanchep — and by February 2026, the old signal will be gone completely. Once that happens, homes without an external antenna will lose access to channels like Seven, Nine, and Ten altogether.
At TV King Perth, we’re helping families get ahead of the change now. Our professional antenna installations keep your home connected with clear, reliable Free-to-Air reception — no subscriptions, no stress, and no last-minute rush when the switch-off happens.
